The Apse of the Sagrada Familia
The apse occupies the third head of the basilica, positioned between the Nativity and Passion facades. At its center, the Chapel of the Assumption will be built, connecting with the cloister and surrounding the entire space. The original inspiration for the construction of the apse came from the Virgin Mary, to whom Gaudí was deeply devoted.
The apse contains seven apsidal chapels, each representing the seven sorrows and joys of Saint Joseph. Built in the Gothic style, the apse was constructed between 1891 and 1893, reflecting the serenity and spirituality that Gaudí sought to incorporate into every part of the basilica.
